How a business card QR code works.

What the code contains, for example:
BEGIN:VCARD
VERSION:3.0
N:Lee;Ana;;;
FN:Ana Lee
ORG:Juniper Coffee
TITLE:Head of Sales
TEL;TYPE=CELL:+15551234567
EMAIL:ana@example.com
URL:https://juniper.example
END:VCARD

What happens when someone scans it

The phone camera recognises a contact card and offers to save it with your name, company, title, phone, email and website filled in. Nothing is saved until the person confirms, and no app or internet connection is needed.

Fewer fields, easier scans

Every detail adds modules to the code. On a small card, a code with a name, phone, email and website scans more reliably than one that also carries long titles or notes.

Printing it

A common rule of thumb is a code at least 2 cm (about 0.8 in) wide for close scanning, and larger the further away people stand. Keep dark modules on a light background, leave a quiet margin around the code, and test the printed proof with more than one phone.

A common spot is the back of the card, or a corner of the front with a margin around it. Add a short line such as Scan to save my contact, so people know what the code does before they scan it.

Print dark modules on a light background with strong contrast, leave a quiet margin around the code, and avoid placing it across a fold or over a busy pattern. Order a proof or print one copy at home, and scan it with both an iPhone and an Android phone before printing the full run.

Static or dynamic QR code on a business card?

A static contact card code stores your details in the image. It works without Bikto or an internet connection, but it cannot be changed after printing, so a new phone number or job title means new cards.

A dynamic (trackable) QR code stores a short Bikto address instead. It can open your link in bio page or website, you can change where it leads at any time, and you can see how many people scanned it. Trackable codes need a free Bikto account.
